Townsend Smith Foundation Welcomes Director of Development – Kate Holmes

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Townsend Smith Foundation Welcomes Director of Development– Kate Holmes

February 14th, 2019

The Townsend Smith Foundation proudly announces Kate Holmes as its first Director of Development. She will work alongside the Board of Directors to source land and work on a capital funding campaign that will result in the establishment, construction and operation of a ten-bed palliative care residential hospice serving clients in North Halton.

“It is imperative that we come together as a community to make this happen and I believe strongly every donation will truly make a difference,” said Holmes.

Holmes brings two decades of experience in the charitable sector to the role. She was previously with United Way Milton, where she served as Chief Executive Officer for six years. She has immense dedication to the communities in which the eventual hospice will serve, having lived in Acton and Milton. She understands the importance of compassionate end of life care and will work competently with the Board and Volunteers to make this vision a reality and meeting our goals.

John Barrett, Chair of the Board at Townsend Smith Foundation said the Board of Directors is excited to have Kate in the role. “We are delighted to have Kate join the team,” he said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to the role that are simply unmatched. Her enthusiasm for the cause fills us with hope and conviction we will see this goal through to a successful conclusion.”

The Foundation is working towards a place where those who are dying receive end-of-life care in a private, comfortable home-like setting, knowing that every person’s values, beliefs and dignity are fully respected as their lives come to an end.

Access To Hospice Care Is Priceless

Access To Hospice Care Is Priceless

“John Marshall was a man with a passion for life, which he passed down to his children. He wished for donations to be made to benefit hospice care, specifically in Milton, because of the passion his daughter Dr. Deb Marshall has for improving palliative care access in Milton. John was fortunate enough to have a wonderful family and care team that supported his wish to die at home. He was aware not everyone has this support – and access to hospice care in one’s community is priceless.”

Good Vibes At DEATH CAFÉ

Here’s some of the feedback we got from the more than thirty participants who attended our Death Café on November 1st:

“Positive, open, and lots of smiles”

“Wonderful input from all at the table”

“Appreciate opportunities like this to share about death and palliative care”

“Great cake! & conversation!”

We shared a wonderful evening of chat with a truly receptive and open all-ages group on the Day of the Dead, November 1st. How encouraging to get this response to our first event! We hope to run an annual Death Café in Milton; you can contact us for future dates, or to find similar events in our area, go to DeathCafe.com.
